About Electrical Panels

When having your panel serviced, it’s the best time to consider customizing your home for better comfort and convenience. A light switch on both sides of the room or stairs, outlets with night lights in the hall, or an extra outlet by the bed. Small details will make a big difference in creating a more efficient lifestyle

Modern wiring that is up to code is essential when buying or selling a house. Updated and proper wiring can increase the value while an electrical system full of code violations or lacking modern safety devices can drive buyers away.

FAQ

What does an Electrical Panel do?

The electrical panel also referred to as the load center, is the main component of a home or building’s electrical system. The utility company will provide power through an overhead or underground service, which meets your main panel’s connections within the meter base enclosure. The main panel is where the rest of the house’s power is controlled. All the circuits through your home start in the panel and are controlled with their appropriate breaker. There are wires running all throughout your house to power anything and everything that uses electricity. Considering how essential the panel is in our home, it’s important to ensure it’s safe and up to today’s standards.

Is servicing my Electrical Panel Important?

Having an outdated electrical system poses the risk of an electrical fire happening. When a panel is overloaded with current, it can burst into flames and start a fire. Older homes were not wired to today’s electrical needs. Instead, they were wired for 60-100 amp services which was enough back then. Today’s industry standard for residential homes is 200-400amps. Aside from capacity, multiple items were tied to one single circuit which would not be up to today’s codes. With most of the wires and components being hidden behind walls and ceilings, it’s difficult for owners to determine the state of their home’s electrical system.

Is servicing my Electrical Panel worthwhile?

The biggest benefit of having your panel repaired or updated is the safety of your electrical system. Older systems can be deteriorated, lack current surge or grounding requirements, and pose fire risks in your home.

Upgrading your service capacity allows for the future installation of modern and more sophisticated technology such as car charges, home theater systems, hot tub installations, modern bathroom enhancements such as heated floors or jacuzzi tubs, higher powered appliances, central heating and cooling, home additions, etc.
